Executive Bios
The ADVANCED Care Management team includes:
Grant Brown, Pharm.D. — CEO, Cofounder-Managing Member
Previously, Dr. Brown held executive positions at Advanced Care Technologies, Inc. and Option Care (NASDAQ, optn). Additionally, he was a founding member of SITEX, S.A. a Swiss company which introduced home infusion therapy to communities throughout Switzerland. Dr. Brown has continued to own and operate community pharmacies in Michigan. since his graduation from the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at University of Michigan College in 1983. As a consultant to long-term care, group homes and assisted living facilities Dr. Brown pioneered the use of pharmacy care management systems for improving patient care outcomes. He is currently the Chairman of the Board for Hospice of Jackson, and has held executive board positions with professional associations including the Michigan Pharmacist Association and the National Home Infusion Association as well as advisory board positions at Abbott, Lilly, and Aventis
William Drake, Pharm.D. — President & COO, Cofounder-Managing Member
In addition to his role with Advanced Care, Dr. Drake owns several healthcare organizations including, Clinical Pharmacy Services of Mid-Michigan, Advanced Care Pharmacy Services and, Advanced Care Infusion Services of Southeast Michigan. He serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Wayne State University College of Pharmacy and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Consultant Pharmacist Society of Michigan. He sits on advisory boards for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan and Michigan Medicaid Pharmacy Program. He was nominated Pharmacist of the Year for 2006, and holds a fellowship in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). Dr. Drake received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in 1986 and earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy from WSU in 1988.
Robert Drake, BA — Senior Vice President
Previously Mr. Drake held executive and managerial positions with the largest Local Union in the state of Michigan. Additionally, he was a Trustee for a multimillion dollar pension fund, health benefit fund, and prepaid legal fund along with negotiating labor contracts with major Michigan supermarkets. He has been a member of Society for Human Resource Management since 2004. His experience in negotiations, labor relations, benefits, and customer service has been an asset to the Advanced Care team. Mr. Drake received a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Economics from Wayne State University.
Gordon McHugh, MBA — Vice President of Finance
Mr. McHugh has worked in the accounting field for 22 years, the last 10 years in the Detroit area. He worked in various industries in Toronto, Canada including insurance, food distribution, and sporting goods. He then worked for a community mental health agency in Detroit-Wayne County from 1995 before joining Advanced Care in 2004. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University and a Masters in Business Administration from Wayne State University.
Frank Erace, R.Ph. — Regional Director of Pharmacy Operations (Eastern Region)
Frank Erace graduated from Wayne State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist and manager in a family owned and operated retail pharmacy for ten years from 1988 to 1999. In 1999 Mr. Erace opened and managed his own independent pharmacy in St. Clair Shores until joining Advanced Care Pharmacy Services in 2003. Mr. Erace’s responsibilities at ACPS include multi-site pharmacy management and new pharmacy start-ups.
Paul A. Hammerly, R.Ph., F.A.S.C.P. — Pharmacy Services Director
In 1993, Mr. Hammerly assumed the role of Clinical Director for Frank’s Pharmacy LTC and directed the pharmaceutical care for over 2,000 residents. In 1994, he was among the first pharmacists in Michigan to complete the Consultant Pharmacist Certificate Program (CPCP). In 2001, Mr. Hammerly established Clinical Pharmacy Services (CPS) of Mid-Michigan and began providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care for the consumers of Community Mental Health of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. Mr. Hammerly, holds a Fellowship in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and is the past Chairman of the Consultant Pharmacist Society of Michigan. Paul’s areas of clinical focus are geriatric pharmacy and psychopharmaceutics. His continued participation in the P & T Committee, educational in-service, and drug utilization review processes are of great benefit to organizations serviced by Advanced Care.
Michael F. Breen, R.Ph., MBA, FACHE — Vice President of Pharmacy Services
Mr. Breen joined Advanced Care in early 2010 after an extensive career as an executive in the health and hospital industry, eventually being recognized as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He served multiple roles as a Hospital President, as well as Health System Corporate Vice President roles overseeing clinical divisions (including Behavioral Health Services), and sponsoring the system-wide implementation of a comprehensive electronic medical record. Mike Breen’s “roots” were planted in the health industry as a hospital pharmacist; and he is now back in the pharmacy services environment where is currently bringing to Advanced Care all of his business and clinical experience from the highly volatile and technologically dependent acute health care setting.
L. Matthew Knutson – Vice President of Information Technology
After spending 8 years in the Army Reserve, achieving a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification and gaining experience working as a computer engineer for a medium size Microsoft Solution Provider, Mr. Knutson started his own IT consulting company. As an independent consultant he has worked on multiple high level networking projects that included AAA of Michigan’s TCP/IP protocol roll out for all of the locations across Michigan and Wisconsin, contracted as the lead project manager for the wide area network (WAN) implementation for the City of Lansing, project managed over a dozen school district WAN and Computer PC rollouts for the metro Detroit area totaling over 2000 PC’s and more then 100 servers. Mr. Knutson’s area of expertise revolves around Microsoft server technology, network electronics, Internet web development, and project management.
